Recipes - using Black Malt
Also referred to as Black Patent Malt, Black Malt is often used for color in all beer styles. It's a must when brewing Schwarzbier and other beers that depend upon dark color for style.
Black Lager (Schwarbier)—(5 U.S. Gallons)(Grain)
Clear lager yeast character and subtle coffee flavor are the distinguishing characteristics of this dark, yet surprisingly light flavored beer. A refreshing alternative to stouts and porters on a blustery winter's day.
Chocolate Porter—(5 U.S. Gallons) (Extract & Grain)
You’ll want to savor every sip of this rich, chocolately porter. Its deep, intense flavor is achieved by the extreme combination of specialty malts, steeped for a longer period of time, plus unsweetened cocoa. We recommend using the highest quality cocoa you can get your hands on!
Darker Weiss—(5 U.S. Gallons) (Extract & Grain)
Modeled after one of the best selling and most award winning Weiss beers in the world, the Black Malt in this recipe balances and rounds out the normal Weiss beer charter.
Good Humans—( 28bbl) (Grain)
Used at 11%, Carabrown® Malt adds an additional layer of flavor to this complex double brown ale.
Light in the Dark Lager—(5 U.S. Gallons) (Extract and Grain)
This smooth, dark colored lager can lead drinkers of light colored beers over to the dark side. With your eyes closed this Schwartz beer is as smooth as a European pilsner.
Winter's Night Dry Stout—(5 U.S. Gallons) (Extract & Grain)
The unique woody, dry character of the Extra Special Malt makes this Stout as dark, dry and crisp as a winter's night.
