Hop Bomb Imperial IPA


Quaffable after a big day of shooting the curl, this insanely hoppy, big beer is quite crisp and refreshing due to its high attenuation and incredible floral character.

Ingredients

6.6 lbs CBW® Sparkling Amber LME Extract, LME
2 lbs CBW® Pilsen Light DME Extract, DME
2 lbs Cane Sugar Boil 15 minutes
4 lbs Caramel Malt 60L Caramel, Crystal
1.5 oz Magnum Hops (13% AA) Boil 60 minutes
1 oz Amarillo Hops (9% AA) Boil 15 minutes
1 oz Amarillo Hops (9% AA)
1 oz Simcoe Hops Dry hop
1 oz Cascade Hops Dry hop
2 vials WLP001 California Ale Yeast

Procedures

  1. Perform mini-mash with 4 gallons of water and grains
  2. Steep at 152-158ºF for 30 minutes
  3. Add extract
  4. Bring to a boil
  5. Add bittering hops and continue to boil
  6. Add remaining hops and cane sugar and indicated
  7. Remove from heat
  8. Cool to 72ºF
  9. Transfer to primary fermenter
  10. Fill to desired level with cold water
  11. Oxygenate and pitch yeast
  12. Add dry hops after secondary fermentation

Primary Fermentation: 10 days at 70ºF

Secondary Fermentation: 14 days at 35ºF

Fermentation Notes: Bottle condition with Pilsen Light DME or force carbonate

Original Gravity: 1.081

Final Gravity: 1.016

Alcohol by Weight: 6.8%

Alcohol by Volume: 8.5%
