Pilot Brewing Services

Right after the two Briess malthouses, our favorite facility is probably the Pilot Brewery. The 1bbl system plays an integral role in our QC and R&D programs and also allows us to provide a valuable service to breweries. It's a service we've been providing for decades...since the early days of the American craft brewing movement, in fact.

The original pilot brewer went into retirement several years ago, about the same time the IIrish Road Extract Plant went up. Today, our modern 1bbl system is located inside the Extract Plant, adjacent one of our quality control labs. The automated five-vessel system allows for single-infusion, step-infusion and decoction brewing, has three fermenters and a glycol chiller system that can mimic small- to large-scale modern systems.
