The one-barrel pilot brewing system at Briess plays an integral role in our Research & Development and Quality Control programs. While the brew system is small-scale, it is completely automated allowing us to perform any mashing regimen from single or step infusion to complicated decoction methods. Combined with 3 glycol-cooled fermenters, we can easily replicate larger commercial-scale breweries. Additional expertise and resources include plate-and-frame and membrane filtration, hop screens, pressurized fermentation, pasteurization, decolorization, and evaporation/concentration.

The pilot brewery allows us to:

  • Assess our malts in different beer styles
  • Conduct brewing and recipe development services for customers
  • Demonstrate malt flavors in beers for internal and external education
