HOMEBREW CON would not be the same with out new and innovating beers to sample. This year we are featuring our NEW Cararmel Rye Malt and we have three brewers who have crafted this malt into delightful, sipping treats for your enjoyment at the Homebrew Expo. Be sure to stop by Booth #1008 to try one of these beers.
Porter in the Rye
This subtle, but complex rye porter illustrates brewer Sean O’Hern’s (of The Answer Brewpub in Richmond, VA) talent for experimenting with malts and creating delectable treats. Sean has been a fixture in Richmond’s beer community for over a decade, first as a passionate homebrewer and co-owner of the Commercial Tap House, and now as a brewer at The Answer Brewpub. Sean focuses his brews on ingredients that he can locally source that bring fresh new concepts to beer styles. His Porter in the Rye is brewed with all Briess ingredients including our Brewers Malt, Bonlander® Munich Malt 10L, Caramel Rye, Caramel 60L, Chocolate, Caramel 40L and Blackprinz® Malt. It is hopped in the boil with Warrior.
Black Rye IPA
This brew brings a refreshing twist on Black IPA’s with its medium body, a soft, but slightly spicy, caramel rye character, and malty after-notes. Brewed by Tony Ammendolia of Final Gravity in Richmond, VA, it is craftily designed with the homebrewer in mind. Tony has been homebrewing since 1993 and in 2011 he opened his homebrew shop, Original Gravity. In 2015, Tony was ready to take his dream to the next level, and opened Final Gravity Brewing Co, a 2 BBL nanobrewery, in the same space as Original Gravity. He is passionate about home brewing and loves to share his passion with his customers and the brewing community. His Black Rye IPA is brewed with all Briess ingredients including Briess Brewers Malt, Caramel Rye Malt, Midnight Wheat Malt and Blackprinz® Malt. It is hopped in the boil with Simcoe and Amarillo.
This five tool beer can do it all, perfect for walking to first or trotting the bases. It is a refreshing, sweet and slightly spice beer that is dynamic, but made for easy sipping. Brewed by Mike Roy at Franklins Brewery in Hyattsville, MD. A New Hampsire native, Mike Roy joined Franklins Brewery in 2010. He got his start in brewing at IncrediBREW (NH), followed by brewpub stints at Milly’s Tavern (NH) and Beer Works (MA). His beer philosophy blends a respect for tradition, an openness to experimentation, and most importantly his favorite brewery spice, variety. Mike Brewed Briess Harper with Briess Brewers Malt, Briess Caramel Rye and Briess Victory® Malt. It is Hopped with Crystal & Amarillo and fermented with English Whitbread.
