This month we officially announce the re-release of Caracrystal® Wheat Malt as a standard malt available year round, making it the obvious choice for our March Malt of the Month.
Introduced in 2009 as a seasonal Maltster’s Reserve Series malt, Caracrystal® Wheat Malt lends itself to many beer styles. It can be used in all beers calling for caramel malt such as IPAs, Pale Ales, low alcohol beers, wheat beers, Bock beers, and session beers where a touch of subtle caramel plus smooth dark toast flavor is beneficial. Use in any beer for added sweetness, smooth flavor or to develop a complex flavor profile. Like other Briess caramel malts, Caracrystal® Wheat Malt will improve body, foam and foam retention, flavor and color.
Caracrystal® Wheat Malt (55º L) is distinguished by sweet, smooth, malty, bready, subtle caramel and dark toast flavors with an exceptionally clean finish, and lends beautiful orange to mahogany hues.
- 5-10%—subtle sweetness and flavor with pale orange tones
- 10-15%—mild sweetness and flavor plus orange tones
- 15-25%—pronounced flavor with dark orange to mahogany tones
